Super 8mm cameras were first manufactured by Kodak in 1965 as a amateur film format and continued to be produced until the 1980s when production died with the introduction of video cameras.
Although originally an amateur film format it has been used extensively to this day by artists and film makers alike. In recent years Super 8 has seen a resurgence in wedding videos due to its nostalgic look.
In 2014 Logmar produced a new super 8 camera and Kodak will release a new super 8 camera in 2017.
